Tuition for the 2016/2017 School Year

Please be advised that the Board of Governors has set tuition fees for the 2016-2017 academic year as follows:

  • Elementary $17,482
  • Middle & High School  $17,977
  • Early Learning Program  $12,500

The school’s largest expense category is salaries & benefits, and the board would like to acknowledge the support of our faculty and staff over the last number of years, when declining enrollment has presented significant financial challenges. However, I am pleased to report that we are budgeting for moderate increase in enrollment, for the first time in a number of years. The Board and its various sub-committees have conducted a thorough review of school resources and expenses, with the aim of keeping the increase in tuition to an absolute minimum. We are aware of the continuing difficult economic climate, and the impact that this is having on both the MSA family and the school enrollment. The Board is committed to ensuring that Mount St. Agnes Academy continues to provide excellence in private Catholic education, in a caring and Christian environment.

School infrastructure improvements and equipment maintenance are also significant expense categories. During the 2015 summer break there were major projects to install air conditioning in all teaching spaces, as well as long overdue renovations to the staff room, the kindergarten classroom, and replacements for various windows and doors throughout the school. This summer will see a significant project to renovate all stair wells, the art room, as well as continued upgrading of windows and doors. The school will also continue to invest in technology, with new Interactive Display Boards, replacement of outdated PC’s and a new school software system that will include a new parent interface.

In September 2015, we commenced the MSA Early Learning Program (“ELP”), a pre-K class for 4 year olds. The ELP provides students with a high quality preschool education, providing all-day, year-round care at competitive cost, in a safe, familial and faith-based environment. The first year of this program was very successful with a full class and all students progressing into our Kindergarten year. The September 2016 class is almost full and we hope that the few remaining spaces are filled prior to the start of the new school year.

We recognize that an increase in any of your expenses, even arising from an item as important as education, may cause increased financial challenges for some families. Our primary objective is to provide quality, long term education to our students, and therefore, if this tuition increase will have a significant impact on your finances, we encourage you to contact our Business Office to discuss your financial situation and tuition options.

The Board would like to thank the Home & School Association and the Bazaar Committee for their significant efforts in supporting school spirit and for their tireless fund raising efforts. We would also like to thank the many parents that volunteer their time and talents, whether it is part of the Bazaar or regular assistance for lunch duty or field trips. These fund raising and volunteer efforts play a large role in keeping tuition increases to a minimum, and during this continued financial downturn, these efforts are valued even more than ever. The Board would like to encourage those parents that have time available, and do not volunteer at present, to consider donating some of their time to MSA.

Please contact the Business Office on 296-3979 if you have any questions or need to discuss any of the tuition options.

Yours sincerely,

Michael Smyth

Treasurer

MSA Board of Governors
